Work package 1 (WP1) is concerned with the management and administration of the project. In order to create the VARIES Reference Technology Platform (RTP) a number of interacting steps are proposed: WP2 to WP6.
The aim of WP2 is to collect all the requirements by the partners and for the industrial demonstrators (which are the core of WP6).
In WP3 should the variability drivers and their impact on the product portfolio be identificatied. Understanding these drivers and how they interact with the product portfolio will “enable companies to make an informed decision on variability use in safety-critical ES” (Objective 1).
The third step (WP4) is concerned with the variability vehicles, i.e., the instruments (methods, tools, services etc.) that will help companies to manage their variability challenges identified in WP2 and WP3. These variability vehicles will support organizations by “providing effective variability architectures and approaches for safety-critical embedded systems” (Objective 2).
The main aim of WP5 is to ensure that the outcomes of the project work together and are integrated. The VARIES RTP, which is the main outcome of WP5, consuming input from WP2, 3 & 4, will realize support for “consistent, integrated and continuous variability management over the entire product life cycle” (Objective 3).
The last step (WP6) consumes the outputs of the previous steps (from WP2–WP5) especially the VARIES RT.
Dissemination and exploitation will be done in WP7 with the final goal of the establishment of the VARIES Centre of Innovation Excellence (CoIE).
