Today’s changing global environment pushes software companies to create products faster than their competitors. Additionally, companies are confronted with an unseen plethora of technological possibilities that can offer new innovation options. At the same time, the change in the global environment urges software organizations to constantly seek ways to focus their innovation. This paper demonstrates how to apply the Software Innovation Canvas in a market pull and technology push environment by means of a multiple case study. It introduces a way to focus innovation in software companies in such environments. Clear innovation targets may help companies focus their innovation improvement efforts in such environments The case study illustrates how this approach can be tailored to such contexts and how it was done in two different companies.
